I mean, since the late 80s we've had Heavy Metal, New wave, Ska, Rap Metal, "Punk", and now "Emo". what gimmicky new fad will come next? there seems to be about 2 or three a decade.

The way that the trends are going, once the emo fad passes by the wayside, we'll see another revival of Disney-sponsored teeny-bopper pop brats, and a comeback of mid-80's power metal a la Judas Priest, Iron Maiden, etc... with a more pop-friendly front to suit today's PC generation.

With any luck, we'll never see a revival of the tripe they were trying to pass off as punk from the mid-90's onward.

MTV's next fad along with every fad they make will be fueled by money. It's the sad way things work these days, they get the money and they do whatever you want them to do.

I'd say the next big fad on MTV will either be what we call "coffee house rock" or, like someone else said, pre-teen pop (aka Disney pop). Personally if I had to choose I'd hope that coffee house rock would be it because at least there's some songwriting involved. But like I said it's just the money they care about, if you gave them a billion dollars and told them to get off the air like the Dead Kennedys did then they'd get off the air and be happy.

MTV in the UK and Ireland doesn't even play music anymore!! I mean, I know it was a crap station to begin with, but come on, they could at least try. I mean, the "M" does stand for music after all, so how can they justify not playing any music? All they have on now is inane crap like Pimp My Ride and My Super Sweet Sixteen. Anyway, sorry for the rant, and to answer your question, I think the next fad will be will be New Rave. It's already taking off, with loads of bands adopting the term (Klaxons, CSS, New Young Pony Club etc.).

Haven't you heard the next big thing is watch celebrity babies sleep and s*** all over the place.

Wait were you talkin about music? Then it will probably be something catering to the WOW generation.

It's too busy promoting its reality fad.
When the hell are they gonna change the name to RTV? It's not about music anymore.
