...wonderful, off the wall question!
Hmm, let's see...
-Eno...braniac, with a very unknown sense of humor
...founding member of Roxy Music, and back on good terms with Brian Ferry, participant on Ferry's last three solo albums, apparently covert participant on the new Roxy record.
...produced Talking Heads, Devo, Ultravox, U2, Paul Simon, and worked with Bowie on three legendary albums.
...personal friend of Robert Fripp
Marc Bolan...had one major hit (...albeit a good one from a good album)
...never got over his jealously of contempourary. Bowie's success.
...took lots of drugs
...took some more drugs
...died an unfortunate death
I am going to have check the box that says Eno.
Thank you for the nice intellectual question!

It's not exactly fair to compare them though since Bolan died so young...but I'll say Eno anyway. Bolan was a pop star while Eno became more of an artist and contributed more to music in general. Eno has recorded one of the most beautiful saddest songs ever - An Ending (Ascent). If you've heard it you know what I'm talking about.

Based on the early Ambient Music series, Eno wins....and I am not including his work with Roxy Music, Fripp, David Byrne, Bill Laswell, etc. & his production work with artists like U2.
Bolan was huge in the UK, but never achieved such status in the USA, which typically relegates an artist to marginal status. Too bad, because he was a great performer.
