Other than slug him down a bit would it really do any harm? He asked me and I don't have a clue what to tell him.

He could have worn his brakes down a bit, probably not enough to make a lot of difference.

It causes excessive wear on the brake and possibly rendering it ineffective for later use. Also, there is a great chance of overheating at the brake area of the wheel and in rare case start a fire. Your friend lucked out at best.

Yes it will overheat the brakes and cause pre-mature wear. I have seen this cause wheel seals and bearings become damaged due to excess heat when this happens also.Best to have it looked at to know for sure.

It most certainly can and it also depends how fast he was going. Do you know if while he was driving if he smelled any thing burning or not. I would recommend him having his front and back brakes looked at real soon.

You heated the rear brakes bad enought to warp the rear drums.
