I have received a MS Word file from my university which may be written in latest version of MS Office. But I am using Office XP 2003 in which I am not able to read the file correctly.
The file opens but the text in it is not in readable format. Please help me. I can send the file to you if you give your mail Id and you can send its text to me in a note pad.

If the file is sent in ".docx"

it was saved in the latest edition of office which is 2007.

Office Word is an authoring program that gives you the ability to create and share documents using a set of writing tools. This is the new upcoming format for Microsoft Office documents. It is a combination of XML architecture and ZIP compression for size reduction. Microsoft promises the format will be open (published for anyone to use) and prior versions of Office, using components provided by Microsoft for Office 2000, XP, and 2003 will be available to perform document conversion.

You can send the file to me and I will save it to you in .doc format.

If the .docx is the case.

Check my profile for the email.

Have you tried using one of the Microsoft Office converters, http://office.microsoft.com/en-us/ork2003/HA011513581033.aspx?

My office runs several different versions and this has come in handy more than once! Although it always leaves me wondering why Microsoft can't just build in backwards compatibility, but...whatever.

oftentimes you can just click on the name of the file, wait a second for it to allow you to edit the file name, then just delete the x from docx and it will now be a .doc file.

right click it and choose Open With your version of Word. done.

10 pts please.

Try uploading it to google docs or thinkfree:

Google docs:
http://tinyurl.com/2w4u8s (needs a Google account - free).

Thinkfree:
http://www.thinkfree.com/common/main.tfo (needs registrations, also free)

Once uploaded, open the document directly from the site. Should work.
