During the week a Jehovah Witness was spared imprisonment after being convicted of child sex offences because the judge considered among other things that he was a 'changed man' and also a 'man of faith'.

Should the fact that he is a christian have spared him from imprisonment?

No if you commit a crime as serious as this then you should go to jail, no matter what your religion is. He may be a changed man, but what about his victims? They are probably traumatised for life, and he has got what amounts to a slap on the wrist.

No. Somehow the fact that he abused a helpless child bothers me more than if he is a Christian. If he is changed that is good but if he is truly sorry then he should go and take a punishment not hide behind a wall of faith. If he is spared then why keep anyone is prison, I'm sure they all believe in stuff too.
What about his victims, I bet they are pretty 'changed' too.

I'm sorry to break this to you, but Jehovah's Witnesses aren't Christians! They are Jehovah's Witnesses - there is a difference.

Paedophiles DO NOT change either. Any more than a normal person can suddenly change their sexual preferences. Ooo....I wonder if there's another reason why the judge let him off? We sympathise with those that we identify with. We are lenient towards those whom we identify with.

All paedophiles should be hanged from their necks until they are well and truly DEAD. End of.

All the more reason he should have been made an example. No-one should escape this sort of debauchery, no matter who they are and what there background is. I think if I was the parents of this child I would go for a private prosecution. No wonder there are people who take the law into their own hands when the legal system lets them down.

Absolutely not. A christian has to pay for his crimes just as anyone else. If the man is a christian he should be willing to submit to his punishment because of his religious conviction. He was being charged for something that he DID not something he may not do anymore.

Not only no but Hell no.
I wish the guy all the luck in the world in getting God's forgiveness, but that doesn't mean a thing in a court of law. He should be locked up, castrated and never let near another child again. And I'm only that lenient because of the limits of our justice system.
All sins may be forgiven through Christ, you can take that up with him when you see him.

No way. On the contrary.he should know better. I hope the judge is right about the paedophile being a changed man. If another child is abused that judge will have it on his conscience

he couldn't be of any religious standing, as I'm sure God would not forgive a paedo. And as for all the stinking paedo judges out there, they obviously think that abusing children is acceptable, these pervs should not be allowed in public areas, where they could prey on the innocent, I'm sick of people trying to justify these sick acts. Harsher sentences are needed to protect the public, as usual the innocent are expendable.

It should have nothing to do with it. I as a christian love hearing of people coming to christ but I also know that people who become christian in jail or awating trial only do it to impress the judge and look good fo a lesser sentence.

It makes you wonder what kind of faith he is a man of. Abuse of any kind is contrary to Christian teaching although there are plenty of paedophiles masquerading as Christians. Still, at least Fred West, Ian Huntley and Jonathan King didn't claim to be Christians.
