Because Harvard is an extremely tough school to get into...basically the best of the best. Chances are...most people don't. And by nature...people are cynics!

Because so few people go to Harvard, and it is so hard to get into. Most people never meet a Harvard graduate. Since Harvard is so prestigious, most people assume that it is the kind of thing that people would fib about in order to sound impressive.

I knew a kid who had the same problem, and he carried around his old student ID card just to prove that he went there.
I think he thought it was a good way to pick up girls.

Probably human nature ... sometimes we just refuse to believe that someone we know could have done something as prestigious as attending Harvard.

Because people are stupid and can't stand the idea that someone else might actually be more intelligent than they are.
