I've heard you can do this now legally,but what about the smell?

Ignore the pundits, yes it will run on cooking oil if you do it right, go to yahoos wastewatts site, you will find some excellent links on there that cover the whole situation in great detail, However, please bear in mind that you still have to pay duty on the fuel no matter what you use, but its still cheaper than Shells option, no you will not ruin your engine if you follow their instructions.

IF the oil is pure and clean and liquid at room temperature,it will run a diesel.As far as the odor goes,well it is what it is.

try it and find out,probably wouldn't smell much worse than a Kebab shop
