There are some Red Sox and Yankees fans who are fine but about 80% of them are obnoxious. I can't decide so I'm saying it's a tie.

I was born and raised in Boston, but I'm not going to say Yankee fans are the worst just for that reason. I have problems with the fans of both teams. I'm a huge Red Sox fan but there are aspects of our fans that I don't like. But Yankee fans are well known for possessing character flaws such as obnoxiousness, rudeness and arrogance. You may think they are entitled to be that way, as someone claimed, because of the very successful history of the Yankees, but I have never respected people who feel the need to brag and show off and rub it in. I am a Red Sox fan who can openly admit things, no matter which team it is. If the Yankees win, so be it. I don't like them, but I respect them. The overwhelming problem for me is that the typical Yankee fan with their negative New York attitude and reputation makes it difficult for me to come out and congratulate them when the Yankees do well.

Say both of their fans are bad, because every year the yankee fans want a world series and the boston fans are alright but since they won in 04, the red sox have been sold out. but hey the chi sox won it in 05 and i don't see them doing good this year. The yankee fans have a point though because the yankees did win 26 world series and that is impressive but the red sox only 6 which pretty much but not enough for the yankees. Boston have been bad a lot of years but i believe the yankees only been bad a year or two.

I would say the Red Sox. I never had any problems with Yankee fans when I was in my Mets or A's gear. But at Fenway forget it. Eric Byrnes (Ex A's player now a Diamondback) explained how one day he was walking down the streets in Boston and a bunch of Red Sox fans followed him and were basically hurling insults at him. I think the whole Yankees having bad fans is over dramatized. I may hate the Yankees, but I don't find their fans to be rude or obnoxious.

That's a loaded question! I am a Sox fan and I will not say Yankees fan. Every team has obnoxious fans, it just seems the Yanks and Sox are more so because of all the national coverage they receive.
There is one team with what I feel is the ultimate obnoxious fan, the Tampa Bay Devil Rays. The guy is so loud and so obnoxious, other teams players have given him signed items to get him to shut up. He even has his own Wikipedia page.

There are four sets of fans. The people at the stadium, the people who root for the home team, the people who root for a team because they like the players, the history, the manager, the history, or some other aspect, and the people who post messages about baseball on neutral sites like this one. Some people fit in multiple categories, but with so many different groups it's impossible to compare "the fans". This is my take, as an admitted Yankee hater, Red Sox sympathizer, and Orioles fan:
Stadium fans: Both sides get high marks for passion. I haven't been to either stadium myself, but what's been reported is that Yankee fans are rotten sports about booing their own team members. I think it reflects their sense of entitlement and childish spoiled brat attitude that if their team doesn't win the World Series they're losers. For those of you who claim to be mystified that anyone could hate the Yankees, that's a big reason. Cheer for your struggling team members and I'll respect you more. I know Boston fans boo their team also, but I don't think near as much. Boston fans are very warm with past players who don't go to the Yankees or insult their team. Maybe Yankees fans are equally warm, I don't know. Boston fans' viciousness toward Red Sox players who go to the Yankees, however, is a sportsmanship negative in my book. I don't know which stadium has more fights, drunkenness, and personally obnoxious behavior.
People rooting for the home team: I have no beef with these fans, mainly because they are invisible outside the region. They seem equally passionate.
People not in the area who pick a team: I typically pull for the underdog, and I feel for the tragedy of Boston's history from 1919-2003 (and the Cubs' since 1908 or whatever), which is a big reason I'm a Boston sympathizer. I am suspicious of people who pick a team just because it's "a winner"--it seems a sign of insecurity to me. The grossly unequal standing of small-market teams in baseball offends my sense of fair play. Since the Yankees are the chief beneficiaries of this inequity, I think picking them to root for is an endorsement of this unfairness. I'll admit Boston's payroll is rivaling the Yankees', but Steinbrenner is the #1 offender here so a lot of my ire is focused on him.
The people who post here: It seems both teams have an equal number of idiots who can do nothing but write obscenities and insults about the Sox or Yankees. The gloating about 2004 by obnoxious Sox fans is almost as childish as the obscenities. Admittedly I'm biased, but the Yankees posters who embrace arrogance as a lifestyle bother me more than the childishness of Sox fans gloating about 2004. Mrs Jeter put it very well answering this question, saying that Yankee fans are arrogant, "But we have the right to be. LOL!" In New York this sort of attitude might be accepted as healthy confidence, but Yankee fans shouldn't be surprised that arrogance offends a lot of people.
So to sum up I'd say behavior is about a wash, Yankee fans lose on attitude of entitlement and arrogance.
By the way, I'm not blind to the faults of Sox fans, but I missed the evidence that they are "whining crybabies", as the question charges.
