have cd drive at house im gonna use

the only worry i have is the video card ( possible overkill)

the only reason i thought overkill on the graphics is because im not gonna be gaming everyday, so maybe i can deal with a little bit less performance, and spend the extra $ somewhere else.

As for the RAM, I am gonna go with 2 gigs.

Can't go real flashy with the case b/c im gonna be sharing a room in college and i dont want to have the room lite up by my pc and have him pissed off.

prolly not gonna overclock anything just becasue if anything breaks im pretty much stranded until i can order the new part offline.

thanks to all who answered

Well, since I'm a Canuck I'm not too familiar with US prices, but that all seems pretty good.
Some quick searching revealed:

Hitachi hard drive, 320 GB, but around 10 bucks cheaper.
In terms of compatability, it should all work properly.
I have a question and recommendation, though. How intent are you on getting the AMD processor? The AM2 socket will very soon be superceeded by AM2+ and AM3 I believe, and your CPU might bottleneck your 8800.
If you're willing to spend the extra 50 or so dollars, I would highly recommend that you upgrade to an Intel Core 2 Duo (at least the e6320 http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16819115015&Tpk=e6320 ). This means finding a different motherboard as well, but prices for that should vary too much.
The reason for this is that the C2D processors are generally more powerful than AMD's. They overclock a lot as well, but most importantly, the Socket LGA 775 platform will allow you to upgrade to a future quad-core processor, something that's very fast and powerful.
As for your RAM, it's fine, although I find it weird that north of the border the prices for RAM are the same as your prices, although we're in Canadian funds. It's way cheaper here..
And your PSU has enough juice to power everything. Keep in mind, for future upgrades, you may need a different one though. But for this setup it's fine.

Good luck with your system!

don't forget the OS and make sure you got enough space

Get a 600,650, or 700 Watt power supply, so you can have enough power for the (CPU and GPU and HDD and Mobo and the RAM)

Cases could look cooler, but w/e

Enjoy it, don't try to overclock the CPU or Graphic Processing Unit (Nvidia 8800 GTS 320MB) if there is not enough space for ventilation, get some fans for the case.

Get watercooling for the CPU if you want to overclock it without hurting it.

1. A case is a case .
2. not a bad Motherboard it will work
3.Nice CPU i have it
4. this will do wonders for now
5.as for ram its ok not the greteast. However i would go 2gb of ram not one.. You have a a decent system but 2gb of ram would make it better if your on XP, if your going Vista go to 4gb of ram if u can.
6. the power is fine for now, however u didn't give yourself much room to add another video card or a bigger and better one, or even more hard drives with 550. if your looking to upgrade, get a bigger power supply.
7. 320gb is big enough for u then its good to go.

Hi. Overkill? On a graphics card? Never going to happen. Everything looks good. Do you plan on a CD/DVD burner? If so you MAY want to punch up the PSU a bit.
