The transmission on my 2007 Ford Escape has gone out and will need to be "overhauled" or replaced (per the guy at the dealership).

How will this activity affect the value of my car?

Do I have any recourse against the dealership?

it shouldn't affect the value of it,and no you wont have any recourse against the dealer, they didn't make the transmission go out,i would insist the replace it with a new one though, that's to new of a vehicle to have a re-built transmission in it,insist that they replace the whole thing in it,and it shouldn't affect the value of it,good luck with it.

if you dont fix it it, that will effect the value of the car. cars are not a investment, they are a money pit, that is needed, as for recourse aganist the the dealer why if it is a 07 warranty covers it. unless it was pure abuse and you are within mileage of the warranty.plus with a dealer its backed again by a warranty, once you drove it off the lot being new and put mileage on it it lost value and became a used car.not every mech or dealership is out to ripp people off.

That shouldn't affect the value of the vehicle unless: INSIST it is replaced with a NEW one. A remanufacturer one will bring the price down a little bit.

Don't mention that you had the transmission replaced if you sell it. If you do, people are just going to assume bad things about your car.

Unless they give you a Jasper, which they won't, they need to put in a brand new one.
