IF IT IS JUST THE TRANS PAN AND GASKET I WOULD SAY THE COMPLETE JOB SHOULD BE AROUND $200.00 OR LESS AS LONG AS NOTHING WAS DAMAGED INTERNALLY IN THE TRANS.

AS FOR SUING THE CITY..............GOOD LUCK

If it's just the pan it will be a $40 part and the price of a transmission service. Only an incompetent crook would tell you it's a $400 job to replace a trans axle pan. Oil change places remove and replace them all the time.

i did kind of the same thing but i pulled the muffler apart and had to have it fixed i was told that the city wouldn`t pay cause they didn`t know that the manhole cover was like that. Take a picture of the manhole cover if you can.

Hope that it is only the transmission pan, that can be easily fixed but if it busted the transmission case that will cost a lot....Sorry, I hope it is the lesser! Good Luck!

probably 3-400 bucks to start with ,providing it hasn't done any more damage to it,hitting it that hard may have caused a lot more damage to it,id be prepared to pay at least 300 to get it going good again, maybe more,i hope it didn't do any long term damage to it,and yes if i was you id ask the city for reimbursement on this one ,their responsible for man hole covers, but collecting from them can be really slow, good luck with it.
