You got it. Look, it's over. You know, Mississippi and the TX coast took a terrible hit there, too. Rather quietly, they have all regrouped and forged on. Yes, it is hard to lose everything...I know, it's happened to me. Everything. I didn't have FEMA or anybody else giving me vouchers and debit cards, finding me an apartment or setting me up in a trailer (for which I would have been VERY grateful, I promise) No, it was, (to quote an old Southern saying), "Root, hog, or die." Well, I'm still living. In case no one ever noticed, Florida seems to get blown away on a regular basis but I don't hear anyone thumping for more aid for Floridians. Not only do I think there should be "no more empty promises for New Orleans", I think there should be simply no more promises for New Orleans.
Edit: Oh, I just can't leave this alone, folks. You know, back in 1900, Galveston, TX was on its way to being the primo port on the Gulf coast. That's when an unnamed and uncatagorized (but probably cat 4) hurricane cleared the island of its potential, and Galveston never recovered. Did anyone ever stop to think that maybe, just maybe, New Orleans will share that fate? Some things, folks, do not, can not, should not last forever.

I remember being stationed in Biloxi Mississippi in 1978 and seeing boat still on the north side of 90. That was the damage from Camille in 1969 which was a much bigger storm. I don't recall any whining like we see today.

"Wasn't handled perfectly?" It was handled terribly! People slowly starved to death on their roofs while the gov. did nothing. Obama was right. The government needs to shape up in terms of New Orleans, and fast. People should not be treated like they were after Katrina. This is not a third world country. I didn't think so, anyway...

They should be made to account for every penny.

I find it interesting that no conservative ever applies this thought process you describe to the Iraq war. They tend instead to suggest that no matter how many mistakes have been made in the past, we must work to make it right now.
It seems to me Obama is just saying this same thing, only about helping a U.S. city instead of one overseas. Let's get it done right, because it clearly wasn't the first time.

So who's fault is that?
Don't blame the guy who offers to clean up, in a better way, W's mess.
Also how does that thinking not apply to Iraq? Except there are 650,000+ Iraqis and close to 4000 Americans dead.
