Depends on the nature of the artificial life. If it's a carbon based life form, it's likely to have the possibility for evolution, mainly because that's what's happened with practically every life form of that kind. Can't say anything for silicon, since we don't know anything about life like that, or for that matter any partially mechanical life. Basically, if this artificial life is made on the same basis as any life form we currently know, then there should be evolution.

The scientists are a product of evolution,so by that reasoning they already have made artificial life subject to evolution.

AI life will also evolve...as we invent faster, better, smaller electronics; AI evolution is dependent on our technology.
btw, if science were to succeed in creating biological life in a tube, then it would still be BIOLIGICAL life (and would behave as biologocial life) and not artificial life; artificial life imitates traditional biology by trying to RECREATE biological phenomena while not being biological.

Human is making AI life now - the network is an example. With Food--network fans, nerves--google, bones-ISP, stomachs--ICP, etc. It has evolved from LAN to WAN to Wimax WAN, science to business, from mail, chatting room, bbs to blog, from text, images to multimedia, from p2p to mesh p2p, etc.
Human have made another AI life example -- society. With cells from individual, home to company, With blood from goods to money, With structure from slavery, feudality to capitalism.
So, artificial life was subject to evolutionary process, and they have evolutionary law of its own.

I assume you are talking about biological life and not robots.
If scientists are able to create biological life then there is no good reason why it wouldn't evolve.

evolution does not favor artificial life! It not natural, nature does not allow..
