I say make all terms of the executive office 6 years in length and limit it to one term.
This prevents The person from just making the decions to get them reelected during the first temr, and running a much more extreme agenda during the second term.
Eliminate closed sessions, or close lobbyists out as well.
Eliminate Presidential pardons for political crimes involving national security or political bribery. Or restructure the Presidential pardon power, to be a proposal for a pardon that has to be approved by the Senate.
eliminate politician vacations during wartime.
Make congressional and Presidential raises dependant on popular vote.
Exlude the name of the candidates from the ballot, replacing them with only questions on the issues. And anyone who more closely matches the majority's feelings on the issues, wins the votes.
This eliminates smear tactics, and promotes more responsible voting practices and a better informed voter.
Each Candidate after elected should run an online poll on the issue on upcoming proposals, that are tracked by driver's liscense and verified by each state's Secratary of State.

I've been wondering the same thing for sometime now. Sadly I don't think we (citizens) can. It's all about money. I though that the President was under oath even during reelection time, if this is so we he makes empty promises it's that lying under oath and shouldn't he be impeached? Since the beginning of politics they change the rules to fit who ever is in office. I think after an election it should be our votes that make the decision of who will take office and the one who is runner up should get the Vice. At least that way the White House could become all 1 party.

The system is a sound one, however, the politicians who utilize it are frequently corrupt.
I don't know how we're going to get honest officials elected. The candidates we vote for seem trustworthy but once they're in office, things change. Someone once suggested using pre-screening tests that include a personality test, a lie detector test, and even test to gage honesty and integrity before running for office. At first it sounds odd but I've had to pass pre-employment tests which include some of the above. I was happy to show them what they needed to see. Cops have to take lie detector tests before they're hired because they're dealing with the public. Why can't we do the same for the highest position in the country?

It's time to learn from the past and implement your powers before they are forever taken away from you.
Do you realize you cannot go anywhere in the USA without your id card which tells your government exactly where you are at all times...and they want to expand this now into this unholy trinity they are trying to form with Canada and Mexico....we don't want to be dragged into this folks.
Why do you think America's government isnt' doing anything about the Mexican border problem...who is really running our countries?

I think the first thing to do is establish public financing of elections, just like they do in Arizona and Maine.
Next, I would suggest instituting ranked choice voting, which would allow people to vote for individuals they truly believe in, without the fear of "throwing away" a vote on a third (or fourth or fifth) party.

Deadhead...It'll never happen because Americans are some of the greediest, self-centered, egotistical human beings on the face of the earth. Ever since Reagan made avarice and wealth the god given right of every american...and created the 'me' generation, it's been down the crapper. As bad as the government is, AMERICANS, by their voting, made it happen, and now defend their decision. Bush winning the 2nd time was pretty much the death-knell. For myself, I still write my congressmen, and the editor of the newspaper. I'll quit when I die.
