One could say that faith, i.e., belief in spite of no evidence, is deceiving oneself. It could also be said that belief can be a source of inspiration that leads to a realty, a fact. Faith is most appropriately used in a religious context. Having faith "can" give comfort, & provide a humane moral compass. Would this be deceit?
Humans know so little; there is much that cannot be empirically proven, yet have not been disproven, either.

I believe that anything can be manipulated into something bad in the wrong hands, in this case the wrong minds....people seem to play on words, thoughts, beliefs, just trying to get other people to see it their way, even if their way isn't good at all..... faith is based on beliefs....so it really depends on what the faith is based on.... so if what the belief the person is basing the faith on isn't good..... they are only deceiving themselves....

Faith is not deceiving. It makes no assumptions, has no expectations, it embraces everything that is but can elect to respond (rather than react) intelligently to experience and observation. Faith is an entrustment, without expectation of reward, like love. What is deceptive is BELIEF, which most mistake for faith. Belief makes assumptions, has expectations, and can feel betrayed when its scripts are not fulfilled. Beliefs are illusions, which, if persisted with in defiance of experience and observation, become delusions - and delusions are deceptive, and dangerous. Critical thought is the antidote.

Faith is a creative force..."according to your faith, so shall it be"

Logically, if you really believe you will achieve something specific, you will act and perform in ways that give you a greater chance of actually achieving it, even if its just the confidence and charisma that arise from it all. Also, the other way, if you have faith in negative things, you may be setting the stage for just that.

No, by definition. Faith is belief in something that cannot be proven. Where is the possibility of deceit ? Belief based on proofs, false or not, is not faith. Credo quia impossibile. I believe *because* it is impossible. That is faith.
