Most states require you to be 18 years old in order to sign a legal document (such as a lease).

I think it is not about age, is about maturity and money.
Im 24 I live in Mexico and even is I really want to live alone I cant, my wage is not enough. Or your question was, legally when can u rent?

18 is the legal age for signing contracts .
( apartment is a rental contract )
Bigger question is how much do you have to have in income to rent ? and what is the required FICO ?

Well you have to be eight-teen to sign a legal document, and a lease is a legal document. So my guess is eight-teen...
