I guess my experience is different than the others.
I had to use an expired DL two years ago because the renewal had not arrived. >I was in LV for a little over a week before it expired to a week past the expiration<
I used it at two different hotel/casinos to check in/cash a check/cash out my slot club point(cash back) etc. I was told that It was still good for 30 days after the expiration.
It was poor planning on my part and extremely slow service on the part of the DMV. I would not push my luck if I were you, different resorts may have different rules.

Even if you did hit a jackpot that required a W2G and didn't have your ID with you, you would still get the jackpot. The casino will hold your money, you can provide the ID later. >Hint, don't play a slot machine with a jackpot over $1199.99<
I sure miss the video poker machines with a royal flush of 4799($1199.75)
I called and talked with people in the know(Hotel/Casino) management - If your ID has just expired and you have the written extension you will have no problem with the vast majority of activities. >The word I got is that this is a common problem for California drivers, since it takes 6 weeks to receive your new DL<
I take it you're being reasonable and that your DL will only have been expired for a few days, not 6 months.

No, and if you DMV gives you a temp piece of paper that says you have a valid license, etc., still no. Only a current govenrment issued ID is valid. State ID card, State drivers license, Passport, or Military ID card are the only accepted forms of ID in Las Vegas Hotels and Casinos. If you'd win over $1200 on a slot machine for example, you have to file taxes on it and the IRS and Nevada Gaming Control Board requires you to provide these forms of ID at that time as well.

I used an expired ID once just to get a players card and they said no. So ...I am definitely saying go get a new one or a state ID. They ask for ID very often in Vegas. They ask me all the time and I'm 33 years old. I pretty much am assuming that you are younger than me.

The quick answer is NO. However, it depends on how well they're actually looking. There are some places that you can get away with it but, for the most part you'll get questioned and probably asked to leave. Better to get your license renewed.
