I've lost my stun gun.

Offering sexual favors does not work. I've tried. I've threatened to set the couch on fire and he just sits there anyway!

Nothing will work other than relentless negative conditioning and I'm sure you're tired of that. You need to build a double-size "tool shed" and convert it into an "office" for your husband. Keep him out there most of the time. It won't matter how sloppy he is. Just don't let him in the house unless you want him in. He can put in a cot and a space heater out there, maybe a small fridge. Let him piss outside outside, come in for the other stuff.

My experience with my messy hubby, here you go:
Leave all of the messes he made alone, as long as you do not add to it. Then when he realizes the house/room's messy, you now can point it out that all of the mess are his. Tell him that you are tired of picking up after him and ask him to stop the bad habit. Only you will have to deal with the mess for a while until he has had enough of the messy place.
Good luck!!

Pick up and wash only your stuff and of course any small children. Leave his on the floor etc. He will run out of clothes. This is of course after you have asked him repeatedly.
Remember that men don't see these things the way women do. If they live alone men will usually leave their stuff everywhere. They don't see the need for tidiness. It is a girl thing.

You can't "train" your husband to do anything. If he's always lived that way, he won't change unless he wants to. The best I can say is set aside one day out of the week, shut the tv and computer off and BOTH of you clean the house.
You must lead by example.

Leave him alone with both kids and forget your cell phone for about a good three hours. But make sure his mom and sister are away for the day. Oh, yeah and take the remote with you. Throw away his girlie mags. too.

Have a very long talk with him.
And if he still doesn't do it.
Dont pick up after him.
Only yourself.
Then when he needs something he will have to go threw all that clutter.
Then maybe he will start.

if you figure it out let me know. It is a difficullt dilemma because if you keep bothering him to clean, than you are a nag, but if you don't say anything than your house will be a mess or you will end up doing it yourself.

nag, nag, nag, nag, nag!!!!

no?! ok, try to make it easy for him, have a laundry basket where he drops things (i'm assuming we're talking socks and dirty clothes etc...). So if you have a laundry basket in the bathroom or laundry room but he's always leaving stuff on the bedroom floor, put one in there instead...

Maybe he is getting turned on by you bending over and picking things up, I'll bet you have a smokin' backside.

Train? Men aren't dogs...just ask him, if that doesn't work...then start making him WANT to pick up after himself.
