I'm no mechanic, but the timing chain shouldn't melt. After all, its made of steel, or some other alloy. The timing wouldn't cook the motor anyways. If it were off, it would just make it run rough. So, you might be referencing your oil pump. If its belt driven, that might be the melting you're talking about. Belts are made of reinforced rubber and tend to wear out. Either way, if the motor is cooked, your money is better spent on a new one, or a remanufactured one. Don't buy from the salvage yard because you never know what you're going to get. At least with a crate motor, you know you have one that works properly.

This may not get me 10 points but a "CHAIN" won't melt. A belt can burn, wear out. The chain can only break.
The only things that will blow up the motor is not enough coolant or oil.
