I LOVE heavy fragrances that permeate the clothing & stay in it. Is there some secret method to make your clothes smell great? (And as CHEAPLY as possible?)....Dryer sheets don't work for me--they smell great while using, but the smell evaporates quickly; so I've switched to liquid softener, but can't find anything strong enough!

I have used TIde powder with Gain liquid softener in the past & it was wonderful, but recently, it's not as strong as it used to be and am TIRED of WASTING MONEY on name brands that smell great initially but then fade off the clothing! Maybe the old-timey DOWNY softener would work?

Thanks for all the suggestions so far! I'm going to try bolstering the scent with the dryer sheets in the drawers trick.

Hanging clothes outdoors....? Lots of people say they smell great, but every time I spot treat or hand wash & leave the item on my deck outdoors, it really STINKS when dry! I'm serious too--a really bad smell! I'm wondering if the item picks up acrid odors from my flowers & tomato plants, the wood of the deck or perhaps the paint...? Or the plastic webbing of the deck furniture that I lay it on. I WISH I knew what people are talking about when they say the wonderful outdoor scent!

I spray a little of my fave perfume on the dryer sheet, rub it between my hands good to distribute the product around. I reuse the sheet over and over. My perfume does not stain but test yours on old towels 1st.

ArchAngel is right. They are treating you like 'the little woman' who they think is responsible for all the housework. Remind them that this is not the 1950s and you aren't June Cleaver. Clean only the bathroom you use and wash only the dishes you use. Keep your soap, toilet paper, etc locked up except when you are using them. If you can padlock the cabinets your food is in, if not get a heavy duty box and lock up your food in that, keep minimal stuff in the fridge. If ArchAngel's idea doesn't work along with my suggestions then you will have to decide whether the place is worth the hassle you are going .

If you prefer the sun-bleached smell, you have to HANG them on a clothesline. They need the sun and wind to circulate around them. If you like the smell of cedar, you can buy a large cedar chest and store your clothes, sheets, blankets & etc. in them. All manner of drawer liners are available. If the items are white, you can sprinkle perfumed talc in and among your things. I read an article where you could put a glass container filled with cotton balls sprayed with your favorite perfume or fragrance inside a closed drawer or cabinet. You can go to a crafts store and buy these sheer silk bags with drawstrings and fill them with a good smelling potpourri. Hope this helps.

We switched from Downy to a softener called Suavatel. We found it at Wal-Mart. It's cheaper for the same amount and the scent really does permeate the clothes or sheets or bath towels. It's strong, but very pleasant and fresh.

My fave is the liquid Downy Vanilla and Lavender!!! It smells so good and the scent stays with you. It comes in dryer sheets as well, but the scent doesn't seem to last as long! Hope it helps! Have a great day! :)

I'm like you. Try putting your dryer sheets in dresser drawers or the closet with your clothes to keep them marinading in the yummy smell :)
