By saying in half, do you mean cut off the kneck part from the bottom, or lengthways, kneck to bottom?, I have never done it but have seen it done. First use a glasscutter to score the glass where you want it to split, then using something that will fit into the kneck, on a piece of string (superglue a ball bearing onto a piece of string), use this to gently tap the inside of the bottle where you scored it on the outside. A fairly long process but it will eventually split along the scoreline. You can then slowly build up heat over a gas flame (not too quick or the glass will shatter) to smooth any sharp edges. - You can create your own drinking glasses this way, and thereby re-cycle what may normally be thrown away!

There is a tool that comes in a kit, it holds the bottle and allows you to score bottle and cut. My daughter had one years ago. I think any craft shop should have it.

you need the kit... they sell the smaller one at micheal's , and the bigger ones at home depot, or lowes. you have to use fire, i learned that in my chemistry class in h.s, and i never forgot that because, i thought it was so amazing. so get on over to one of those stores, so you can cut you some glass.
