sounds like your little one is very smart. he needs to get ferberized. set up a nightly routine you can stick with. we do 730-8pm, bath time, massage time, bottle time, soothing music time, reading time. after all this is done. make sure baby is fed, dry, and not ill. at 8pm he goes in his cot. check on him in five minute intervals, to make sure all is alright. he will fall asleep. it takes a couple of days to condition baby, but once it is done you will be soooooo happy you went through a couple of days of hell. ferberizing is not easy and might require some sedatives for you. stick to it and results will follow. trust me. good luck and god bless. try putting an article of your clothing in cot, baby knows mommys scent.

I purchased a bassinet roughly the same height as my bed. I would get the babies to fall asleep with me and then slide them over to the bassinet and keep my hand on them. After a while I would wake them up a little as I was moving them and pat them back to sleep. Then little by little I would move them further and further away from me. Before you know it they are able to sleep anywhere. After nine months of sleeping beneath your heart it is a bit of a shock to sleep alone. So ease them into it.

My little guy did the same thing. Then at about 3 months he wanted his own bed. He is almost three now and still comes in sometimes but I guarantee he will want his own bed before he goes to college.

My little girl is the opposite. She loves her crib.

There is a country song that says "let them be little.... they are only that way for a while.... let them sleep in the middle."

It wont last long. Love him

Oh- my mom realized that my little brother liked the texture and smell of her shirt. You could put his favorite in his bed. (Dont wash it first!)

The best advise I can give, and one I hold very dear to my heart, is co-sleeping with your baby.

The benefits are amazing if you read up on co-sleeping, one of those benefits if the ease of nursing on demand during the night with little waking on both cooperators (ha) parts.

There are a few safety pre-causions to follow, and you are more likely to cause harm to your child is you only occationally co-sleep then if you co-sleep full-time.

Best wishes

You've got to "fix" this or he'll never have a sibling, or you a night alone with your fella.

There are probably several factors which make him sleep more lightly when he's alone. Some you can correct.

Is the light level the same as in your bed?

Is he as warm on his own as snuggled with you?

Are his needs and restlessness noticed as quickly in his crib as when he's in with you?

We started with the cradle right next to the bed. Any time he fussed, I was right there. (Yes, it was in the way when I had to pee, but it was worth it.)

The next week, we moved it a foot away, then two, then six, then to the other side of the room...

He sleeps alone, now. Of course, he's 21, but still.

Play classical music or lullabies. I have a boom box in our room that has a replay feature- so I set it and it goes all night long.

We do cosleep and did the same with our 10 year old. He was out and in his bed by the time he was 2.5.

Good luck!

Don't lift him out. Reach in and gently rub his tummy and softly sing to him. If you keep taking him out he will not learn to fall asleep on him own. If he is just waking up and not fussing leave him alone. Babies need to learn how to comfort themselves and fall asleep. If they don't they can develop sleeping disorders which can affect how they perform in school, sports, etc.

He is missing your smell. Have your husband put the baby back down. This way he is still being comforted and reassured at the same time.
