What about the levels of devastation? Why hasn't the government done more to make sure that the victims of Katrina have a home? A FEMA trailer isn't a home. The majority of the workload is taken on by volenteers who sacrifice their time and effort to fix what the government should have done. Instead of pouring billions of dollars overseas, why can't we take a step back and look at our neighbors who are suffering right her in America and help them?

I live in PA, but I have seen 1st hand the crisis down there. My church has gone down there on 2 different teams to help rebuild in Slidell. It is the government's responsibility. If those levees weren't so damaged, this wouldn't have happened, even if it did, the damage would not have been this bad

Where in the world are they going to work? The entire city still needs help, why would anyone criticize the victims?
I'm convinced that if Katrina would of hit, "white town USA" this would not be an issue. We as Americans have an obligation to take care of our own. We have the money and resources and waste it like it's no body's business and there is nothing wrong with the government having an obligation to "fix" things when they go wrong. Why does everyone get such an attitude about the victims? It was a horrible tragedy and was by no means anyone of those peoples fault...we can take care of Iraqi people who hate us more than the devil, we can dump our resources into the "war on terror" (JOKE) like it's really going to change the minds of a nation of people that are bred to live and believe a certain way but we have people and a government full of greedy, racist, self centered people who have a fend for yourself take on things like Katrina. I sometimes wonder if the US is really a super power and not just a "stupid power".

Part of it is the goverment doesnt care. That was evident when Katrina first struck down there. The other problem is that like some people mentioned, a lot of the people dont want to help themselves. I went down during my winter break last year and most of the work was being done by the volunteers. That old entitlement mentality that likes to roar its ugly head nowadays. Dont get me wrong most of the people were very thankful but the ones who were not stuck out like a soar thumb. I think both sides need to step up.

As a lifelong resident of the vicinity the rebuilding of the Gulf coast does now not shock me however race and sophistication aren't elements. For something the subject of destruction is monstrous. Large places of Eastern New Orleans adding an complete Six Flags subject park are deserted and the raccoons are taking on. This subject is so low mendacity and the susceptible to flooding that it's most probably that monstrous places will probably be bulldozed and was parkland of a few variety The federal executive has not ever been identified to be fast at doing some thing besides losing cash. New Orleans used to be viewed to be a deficient town earlier than the hurricane. I do not feel race or elegance are elements within the rebuilding of the Gulf Coast The typical revenue of it is apartment used to be low and town used to be in dangerous form financially like so much inside towns. Even earlier than the storm the university method used to be ordinarily the worst within the nation and hundreds of thousands of bucks had been lacking. Janitors had been hanging alleged time beyond regulation and had been amassing paycheck higher than the university principals. Many of the neighborhoods effected had been ,to be variety, at the borderline of being referred to as slums. Few in those neighborhoods had any variety of householders coverage and at the moment are looking ahead to the government handy them the money for his or her loses. The majority of public housing had been fetid pits of medicinal drugs and crime. High crime and iron bars at the home windows had been a reality of existence there. In most of the extra core elegance neighborhoods growth may be gradual and lots of are nonetheless combating coverage businesses. The coverage businesses are announcing they do not quilt floods however it is the storm that triggered the flood. So it is the what got here first the bird or the egg query. New Orleans used to be in dangerous form even earlier than Katrina and can problably take yet another two decades to get again as much as dangerous form

If the liberal democrats who have run new Orleans and Louisiana for the last 100 years had properly allocated money earmarked for levy projects - we would not be having this discussion for the 10,000 time.
1) If you are stupid enough to live below sea level because that's were the dumb *** liberal government put you
-OR-
2)Listen to and suck off the tit of your LIBERAL DEMOCRATIC local and state government for generation after generation and you don't do anything to better your own condition -
maybe, just maybe, you deserve to live in a FEMA trailer for a couple years.

Why after living for free for two years, haven't these people been able to make it on their own?
The job market in NO is one of the best in the country.(for "unskilled" labor, restaurant and construction jobs a bound)
Addition:
It is not the Federal governments responsibility, the levees were run by the levee board, part of the city's government. The number of people in the trailers who even had flood insurance is almost nil. All of the denied claims were from people who had wind insurance but not flood.

It isn't the government's responsibility to assure that you have a home. Where in the constitution does it say you have the right to housing? I think you are confusing this country with some sort of Communist country.
Living in a FEMA camp? I have a suggestion get a job and rent an apartment. Waiting for the government to come save you? You need to get the hell out of my country, we don't need anyone who is dependent on the government to survive.

Wow, I'm so moved. Perhaps because they don't want to leave, get a job and have to work for a living. We have pumped billions of dollars into No and you know what, a lot of the population has left with the government checks they got. Too bad for them. Harsh, yes, but reality.

To some people in the world a trailer is a mansion. You Libs got to stop waiting for the Government to come to your rescue it wont, nay it can't. It's time to grow up and be responsible for your self. If you don't like your fema trailer get to work building your own house.

Not to sound cruel or heartless, but why is it up to the government to provide them with a home? I understand they went through a devastating and life altering event. However if two years later they are still living in trailers that is their own fault. After a certain point if you can clearly see that the government will not make good on its word and provide you with assistance you get up and do it yourself.
