Were it me, I'd do some research on slavery and learn about the lynchings, the whippings, the 'work-'em-to-death' mentality, the cruelty, and the starvation that the slaves were subjected to.
At that point, I'd rethink posting a question such as this.

Minimum wage laws exist because if some employer's could get away with it, they would pay you one dollar an hour.
I started working for 1.15 an hour (minimum wage for students) the normal minimum was 1.25,( I didn't know there was a different minimum for student help I was only 15 yrs old at the time. But when I heard that the minimum was to be raised I found out that 1.25 not 1.15 was the minimum I called employment standards right away (against my parent's wishes as we live in a small town and we were raised not to raise a little hell, too bad, I'm a child of the sixities and was on a mission. Equality to all human beings. Hah, how innocent and naive we are at 15 and how strong minded believing you can take on the world well at least city hall. ha ha.
Anyway this is when I was informed that the 1.15 I was paid was correct because 1. I was a student and 2. because I was working in the service industry (waitress) therefore collected gratuities so the minimum wage was/still is lower for us.
How do you like that, I'm sure my employer would have paid me 75 cents an hour if she could have.
So no the minimum wage is set to protect the worker although it is always set too low and keeps these workers below the poverty line exactly where they want you, you see you are making just enough not to be in receipt of social programs you pay for from the deductions that come from your minimum wage. Still it is better than being on Social assistance, and if you find a decent employer there are some out there they will pay you slightly higher than minimum to start, this is how you know you have a good employer and the employer believes this to be an understanding of loyalty on your part. It is all in the way you look at it.

Since many minimum wage positions in retail, grocery, etc. offer advancement in return for store loyalty so no, not at all. A friend of mine who has been working for a local grocery chain since she was eighteen has already been promised a managerial position when she turns twenty five (twenty-two now) and she started at minimum wage.
Its in the stores best interest to keep skilled and experienced workers who have been with the store for long amounts of time so the only people who suffer from minimum wage are those who have a high job turnover.

They may be, but there are countries that do not even have minimum wage laws, So they serve sometimes as a means for someone to survive, a little above slavery..

If it is, then the slaves are being slaves by choice. Its common knowledge to finish school and do your best, try to higher your education. If you choose to drop out and be a dumb*ss you are basically choosing a life of having minimum wage jobs.
A person can wish to have a better paying job, or they can put in the work so they WILL have a better paying job.
Too bad that choice has to be made when people are young, for many people, too young to understand what the long-term results will be.

no bud, some slaves get paid sure, but nothing compared to what people are making at minimum wage...i dont think u can even compare the two at all....the relationship between Boss and worker is way more different than AN owner and a person who has no choice...i dunno why its the first question on this answer thing i got disgusted with...just to even try to compare the two and how much america has improved since then and the relationships between people is ridiculous

Anyone on minimum wage is free to go wherever he pleases. He can look for better if he's capable and worthy of it. I'm afraid you have absolutely no idea of what slavery is .
