Why are so many of you rejecting your own? Why are you so self-rejecting and self-hating these days? Have you forgotten the teachings of Malcolm X, Marcus Garvey, and W.E.B. DuBois. Have you ever read the Willie Lynch letter? Do you read books at all anymore? Why are you claiming to hate your own? Have they heard the term "overseer" and "house slave" before? Didn't the Black overseers and house slaves love their master so much that they rejected and even whipped their own? Why do you think its so different today? Why do so many disrespect your women? Don't you know that a nation is ONLY as strong as its women? If the women are weak, they raise weak babies who grow into weak men/women. Don't you know that you should be upholding the women and respecting them? Why do you trust in a place that historically has opressed you to this day? Why are you caught up in chasing money and cars? You cant take it with you to the grave. Why not chase good character, morality, honor, and community?

i cant even get mad at the racist stuff that some of the first few caucasian ppl posted, because i have to say, they SHOULD be laughing at our ignorance. We look really dumb to so many people BECAUSE of our division and dis-unity.

knowledgeisbliss, i don't think i came across wrong just because i made a strong, true statement. And black men are the ones doing a lot of self-rejection by rejecting their own peers as well as Black women. Meaning, they must see something wrong with Blackness.

Thank you for the stars. I guess Black men aren't online on Sunday.

4thdimension, I had to pause before I went ahead and answered your question. There are many of us Black men who do act as positive role models and mentors within not only our communities, but abroad. It is an unfortunate circumstance that those of us doing the right thing are not recognized. There are some valid points made in your question, yet, I truly want to see someone come on this forum someday and actually attempt to uplift the Black Male rather than beat him down constantly with endless criticism. Change begins with you and I. I do my part. Will you do yours?

I feel that you are invoking past histories such as MAlcolm X, DuBois, and Garvey as though conditions were still identical today. I believe that they would tell you, were they here, that things are different now. I voted twice for a Black president and though I am disappointed because I feel he is not doing enough against terrorism, I will vote for a Black man OR a Black woman in November if I feel they are the best candidate for president. Black people nowadays lead military and business and industry and thoughts and ideas so it is different, and you seem to me to be invoking slave times with this talk of whippings and so on. It appears to me to be counter-productive.

You're right, but you must note that white men disrespect their women as well. American women period have become sex symbols and are valued for their looks over anything else. But, for the "black community" this should be more of a concern because as a minority group we should recognize that women are also a minority and we should be upholding each other instead of making the situation worse.

Better yet -- why not ask this question of EVERYONE, not just black men? Why not ask each other to respect all people, regardless of gender, race, creed or religious beliefs? Yes, historically man as a nation made mistakes that were grievous and horrific. And certainly we should learn from them and most definitely not repeat them. But that should not be a basis for hatred today.
If we all sought the same outcome: love and respect for ourselves and each other, race would cease to be a factor and the sins of our fathers would no longer make a difference in our lives now.

I agree with EVERYTHING, you just said, even the additional details, I just cant tell you how much I agree with you. And notice how no Black men answered your question. Whenever someone asks a question similar to this one, Black men are no where to be found.
I gave you a star, and I love the way you think *wink* : )

one reason is that they are weak-minded and can't handle a Black woman who is now stronger than Black men are. Black women love hard and will hold you down, so they are missing out.

Even though you come across wrong. (Why are you rejecting your own.) I feel you. This is a problem that ALL men need to start working on.

i'm so tired of people talking about things going on within the black community. if it's black people's problems then it's america's problems because we're all americans. i'm so glad i'm not apart of this older generation that feels the need to divide everything and distinct themselves from everyone else. i don't notice color anymore, its unimportant. it's not up to the black community to fix the problems associated with them its up to EVERYONE and until that happens the problems will continue that are happening wtihin EVERY race

While I can't really speak for Black people, I'm sure you're generalizing.
Also, this has to be said, nobody abolished slavery before we did. We came up with that, this country. To this day, so many other countries do everything in their power to make the lives of ethnic minorities as abhorrent as possible, but not America. This country has done virtually everything in its power to make conditions ideal so that everyone could have a shot at the American dream.
I'm sure the Black men who are interested in materialism, and who don't look at the past, and instead look at the future, aren't quite so bad as you make them out to be. They're just trying to take advantage of the equal rights that Dr. King and others fought so hard for. Why criticize them for that?
