I have been having a lot of problems with recurring constipation and have wanted to try a colon cleanse to get rid of the compacted stools. I just have a feeling that there are stools that are stuck in my bowels. My diet isn't terrible but isn't good either. Can you give an natural recommendations or commercially available colon cleanses that would loosen the compacted stools? I have seen a bunch of websites that try to see these. Which is good for this?

Any "colon cleanse" that you buy is most likely just a laxative, which will indeed cleanse your colon temporarily but will not solve your problem. Your constipation is most likely due to your diet. You need to increase the amount of fiber you eat. The best sources of fiber are vegetables, and to a lesser extent whole grains and fruit (mostly in the peels). Without fiber, stools harden and compact.

Among the causes sited for this condition, psychosomatic is rarely included. Though certainly many complaints have a psychological basis. The Freudian designation of an "anal retentive" personality is no absurdity at all.

There are several others. Those that come with age include:
1. a weakening of the peristaltic waves that move fecal matter through the colon,
2. a lessened neurological sensation urging relief,
3. pockets in the colon wall, and
4. most importantly, a host of dietary mistakes.

Fiber ( tabs or powder) and water (lots of it) often answer the problem. Two tabs of Senokot (active ingredient Sennosides) every other night will be a big help. But you should not worry if you do not feel the urge every day, especially if you are of advanced years. If great straining is required, don't do it if you are up in years. Simply use part of a Fleet Enema to initiat things. Strainging can be dangerous.

Do no fall for or be affected by those infomercial racketeers with their nonsense about "colon cleansing." It's a medical scam. If you need to evacuate your entire G.I. tract for some medial procedure, your physician Will give you all the instructions you wil need.

I hope it all comes out OK.

A high-fiber diet is the most widely used remedy for colon and stool problems. Drinking plenty of water and exercising regularly also helps a lot.

While many people want to use laxatives, some would rather settle for natural-based medications to avoid digestive irritation and other side effects. You might want to take a look at this colon fix I've seen: http://www.newcolonsweep.com/

Keep this kind of meal between 400 and 800 calories. Serve yourself a small portion, so if you like coming back again for seconds, you'll just finish up eating a normal-size portion.

Add veggies to baked goods. You'll never even taste this zucchini in these brownies or perhaps the sweet potato in these kinds of cookies.

Liquid chlorophyll is a good detoxifying and cleansing agent. Apple cider vinegar helps as well.
