Pretty much any age is fine to start. Taking classes is the most important thing. You should not audition until you've had training or your inexperience will show and you will be less likely to be taken seriously and to ever be invited back for another audition. Study. Then audition at local theatres first and build a resume. Then get into some student and indie films and once you have built up a decent resume from that, try to get an agent who will then start looking for commercial, tv & film roles for you to audition for.

start with theatre acting. go audition for a play. i think 10 or 11 (or older) is the best time to start because you are old enough to learn lines and such, but young enough to learn alot. don't try nd start with tv or movies beacuse:

1. nothing on your resume, and most casting directers don't want a total newbe.
2. you won't have any experience with, audtions/expresion/pauses/etc.
3. theatre acting is 'harder' so camera acting should some alto easier if you have an idea of what your doing.
4. find out if you even enjoy acting!
hope that helps....now go try out for community theatre!
