It's a matter of taste. Eat whatever you want. Nobody's forcing you to eat something you don't like. It's still a free country. Cook for yourself. Then it will be perfect.

Since I'm a Texan and a world traveler, I think I'm qualified to answer this....you can't judge a whole state by a few and you certainly can't qualify one's opinion as to the whole as well.
There are so many different taste, my father lived in Japan for 2 years and loves sushi - I despise cold food and don't like sushi, but I love tempura.
My husband who has lived in almost every country, has taken some time to get accustomed to our Texan cooking, he claims its an acquired taste - more than Korean or German cooking.
Personally, I'll try any food once, but I don't classify anyone ignorant if I don't enjoy the same food. I believe we're all entitled to our own opinion, if someone made the grave mistake of recommending some place that offended you, be assured that probably wasn't their intention. On behalf of all Texans please accept my apologies of some ill guided Texan of their cuisine preference :)

Recommended by whom? What restaurants? I am a Texan and I don't consider myself ignorant. It's all a matter of taste and common sense. One doesn't go to a seafood restaurant and order a steak. Know what I mean?
A few of the dishes that Texas is known for is BBQ, Tex-Mex and Chicken Fried Steak. As anywhere else in the country, all restaurants that serve these items aren't necessarily good at them. Some restaurants are just better than others.
Another thing to consider, alot of Yanks have moved here and operate restaurants. What might be considered good in their part of the country, might really stink if they tried to serve it here.

Why ask a Texan if you assume we are so ignorant about cuisine? Seems kind of ignorant on your part.

You nee to be more specific. Texas is a big place and I agree its not the gastronomic capital of the world, but you can definitely find some good eats.

Texans are over patriotic and think everything American is better than anything else, thus they have no curiosity about foreign cuisine, or anything foreign for that matter.

I'm going there in November. I hope I will have better luck than you. How was the chili? It's supposed to be the best there.
