Some people might like uniforms b/c they don't have to worry what they are wearing to school,no peer pressure, everyone has the same thing on,so no judging,if someone is on school campus that is not supposed to be they will be noticed,it is said that wearing uniforms raises school morale and less money would have to be spent on school clothes. On the other hand I think dressing is a way of expressing ones self,it is fun to buy new clothes for back to school and is part of "back to school",everyone doesn't look good in uniforms or the colors could not flatter someone and choosing clothing is part of growing up.So,there are pros and cons...but I think it would not affect the K-5 as it would 6-12....

I wore a school uniform from 1st through 8th grade. It wasn't that bad. The way fashions are now and with all the gang related clothing, I think schools should have some sort of dress code or uniforms. The emphasis should be on EDUCATION, not getting distracted because someone just has to look like a badazz or a supermodel.

Yes, but there should be too crazy strict. Like shoes shouldn't matter, and it should not be mandatory for girls to were dresses. They should have a few colors and be able to were accessory's. The reason I feel this way is because kids become so assumed by what to wear and if it's cool enough the school is not the main focus. Also, kids are ruthless, it seems the kids whose parents can't afford the labels are made fun of or the kids that choose to express themselves in other ways are isolated. Life is more then the newest trends and expensive labels.

Uniforms are an outward simbol of unity in any group or organization. If an individual does not feel comfortable wearing the uniform it usually stems from not being comfortable with the group.
It would make little sense for me to wear a McDonalds uniform if I didn't like Mcdonalds. The same holds true with school uniforms. If you don't agree with the schools dress codes or any other policy I would look for other options for my education that tie in with my own beliefs.

A dress code exists in every school in the country. It's just a matter of where do you want to draw the line. No bare feet? No t-shirts? No underwear showing? Or actual uniforms? Cost is irrelevant because uniforms don't cost more than you'd otherwise spend on clothes. Creativity comes from the mind not your clothes.

I have always thought public schools should wear uniforms, and only the uniform. No extras, scarfes, hats, shoes , socks, everything a child wears should be uniform. No purses, no back packs, nothing. No phones. Kids can use the phone in the office, just like we use to do. Leave thoses Ipods at home. The school should issue work books for homework and that is all the student should carry to school. Killing and gang fights have gotten to be to much in public school. It is time to get the student back into what is important, learning.
Tax payers pay for those schools and teachers, as a tax payer I say, get them back to the basics. Pay the teachers more, put two teachers in every class room. You wanna raise taxes, rasie them and invest in our childrens future. Check the grades of children that our home schooled, they are so far ahead of kids in public school. Why is that? Because they spend the day studying and paying attention, not listening to Ipods, talking on cell phones. Our school sytem is the worst. Put physical education back in the schools. Music back in schools. Give our kids some culture. Working at Burgerking is not a career. Geez, those of you that represent us in congress, please improve the school sytem. Take some of that money that is going overseas and spend it on our kids and teachers. Our kids are getting fat and stupid and it is partly your fault.

There are many sound psychological reasons for why some schools require "uniforms", some of which are actually specifically intended as consideration for individuals. Normally these are private schools, therefore not included in the government requirements, at least in the USA, where individual freedom is so important (though individual responsibility may not be, even though they should go together...). I commend to you the study of both psychology and sociology as relates to groups of individuals and their relations.

Although I've always liked the British school uniform look , I wouldn't want to wear a uniform in school. People will still hang out in separate groups, and exclude/tease others. Even if people are all dressed the same, they will still find ways to ridicule others about their appearance.

You'll get use to it. In my middle school, they documented the attendance rates of students before and after enforcing uniforms. It turns out that when students have to wear uniforms, more of them showed up in class. I still hated the whole uniforms idea but you just have to deal with it. There's other ways you can express individuality. And look at the bright side of it- you won't have to think of what to wear every morning.

No, I don't think uniforms are right for school. I mean it does stop people from judging what you wear, but it stop freedom of expression. People should be able to wear what they want to wear and if people judge you on what your wearing then they arent every nice. You should get to know someone first. So even if schools do make you wear a uniform, people will find another way to judge.
