The media.

It paints all Muslims acting like Muslim extremists.

Americans with common sense know that just because a few Muslims are crazy, doesnt mean they all are. However, common sense is lacking in the U.S.

I feel that the majority of Muslims good people who would like to live in peace and raise their children in a peaceful, prosperous society. I work with several Muslims and they are intelligent, thoughtful and hardworking coworkers and generally just nice people.

But, Islam has a problem. The fundamentalist elements of the religion are trying hard to take over governments (for example the Taliban). Some Muslim countries use the west as a scapegoat for economic problems caused by their own policies. The Ayatollah Khomeini of Iran called the US, 'the great satan' and since then it has become a common derogatory term in some Muslim countries for the west. Muslims moved from just throwing names at the west to physical violence when they started bombing Embassies and transportation stations around the world (culminating in the attacks of 9/11). This has definitely put a strain on the relationship between some Muslim countries and the west.

It all boils down to a lack of understanding. the Muslim world sees the west as a whole and not the multitude of factions and opinions, and most westerners see the Muslim world the same way. The only people all westerners hate are extremists and terrorists. Unfortunately some groups here try to lump there own prejudice in with this by only showing Muslim or Arab people in a negative light, then saying that the Muslim world breeds only terrorists. And the Muslim world only gets to see the less informed and angry side of the west because it is the loudest, and usually gets the most media time. There are a lot of people here who understand that the Muslim community is not defined by a few fanatics. But here, the level headed people make for boring news, and we wouldn't want that.

I'm sorry to say that the 'West' and 'East' are full of ignorant, self-seeking, and evil people with too much time on their hands. Everyone is targeting someone; be it on a global scale or locally. Well, in my opinion, whomever is bigger and stronger is going to attack the weaker, or whomever is seen as a threat. This debate reminds me of the question of the chicken and the egg. Who cares who started it, let's just end it and be civil and God fearing like we all claim to be.
