I'm a nurse so I've seen plenty of strange things. The most strange I think was a newborn baby with his internal organs on the outside of his body. There was an opening in his abdomen and everything grew out from it. He had surgery and everything was put back inside and he did very well.

I thought maybe the Northern Lights, a convenience store by a park of insulated trailers populated by Eskimos, maybe a red sports car driven by a submarine sailor who had been discharged for lying about his pre-service marijuana use... or maybe an old servants' quarters converted to a vegetarian Tibetan Buddhist coffeehouse in Memphis Tennessee.
But maybe the strangest thing I've ever seen is fungi and lichen. They're amazing.
And microscopic creatures like the rotifer and the tardigrade. Absolutely captivating!
We found a type of Amanita mushroom by the pool yesterday. Lovely.

I saw what I now believe to be a weapons test of some kind in the atmosphere when I was about six years old (about 1961).I remember watching a huge blue and orange rapidly expanding bubble that slowly dissipated and made the sunset that day appear an erie blue color in the clouds. The only explanation I ever got from my parents was it was probably a rainbow of some kind. There were other kids who saw it too, their parents would offer no explanation either.

When I was down in Mexico during a study abroad for college...I was in the town across from the island of Janitzio in Lake Pátzcuaro (The Day of the Dead Celebration place) and this little Mexican guy was standing in the street wearing three or four hats stacked on top of each other, holding a machete and had his "friend" out for the world to see.... My buddy got a picture...RFLAMO...He won a photo contest back at school... You just can't make this stuff up!

Strangest? hmmm.. Well it could be when my younger brother started catching grasshoppers and tearing the legs off and eating the body OR it could be that deformed dog walking down the road a couple minutes ago... I shudder at the image..

The first time I ate mushrooms I looked at my friend's face upside down, and his mouth and eyeballs "switched sides" and righted themselves. Sounds crazy but it was the weirdest thing I have ever seen. Cool and frightening at the same time.
PS: I would not recommend eating mushrooms, kids -- they can be dangerous and very unpleasant. Overall they are an experience I did not enjoy.

A big school bus with pink fur all over it and a giant bunny face on the front. They were heading to Nevada to Burning Man and it was the weirdest thing to see coming up behind us on the highway!
