I baught a boat in FL not to long ago and when you buy a boat there is a boat and a trailer. There is a registration for both. When i picked the boat up he gave me the title for the boat. He didnt give me the title for the trailer. In MD you cannot title a trailer unless you have the title or registration. I have tried caling the guy and e-mails but wont answer. I still have the tag that was on the trailer. What do i do about getting the title from him or can i get it from the DMV.

if you cannot get original title go to dmv and they can give you a new serial number. when you get new number on trailer you can get new title and tag. i have done this for boats and homemade trailers too.

Florida does not title boat trailers. You will need the Florida registration unless the trailer was never registered, then you need a manufacturers declaration stating the original owner, the vin# of the trailer and the gvw of the trailer. You will also need a bill of sale showing the same. Depending on the idiot behind the counter at dmv it may have to be notorized. DMV may also have you get a vin verification, which has to be filled out by an officer of the law.

Most DMVs have a seperate department that handles boat stuff. I mean at the main dmv in the state capitol. Try calling the main dmv and see if they have a department that handles boat stuff and they will tell you exactly what and how.

I just went through the same thing in WV.

In Florida there is no title to a boat trailer a registration is all you get > To transfer you need a bill of sale with the serial numbers & model numbers & weight. If he gave you a bill of sale add what is needed for the trailer>>As the price included the trailer>>If he left the tag they can run it an use it for ID an info to show who you brought it from.

Try to contact the person you bought it from first .
If you have too you could class the trailer as homemade
and apply for the registration and title that way.
hope this helps
