would you know what to do to be able to survive?
(Don't you wish you'd watched more of those survival shows now?) LOL
Who remembers the power black out?
Say that was permanent. Would total chaos have ensued or would people have managed somehow?

I agree we can survive, but I think the majority of the human race is mad so it will be the survival of the fittest.

I think at first chaos, but then we would have to figure a way in which to live.

Modern society couldn't exist for long without those resources. Witness post-Katrina New Orleans. It didn't even take 24 hours for the looting to start. Then again, consider the inhabitants...next-door Louisiana managed just fine, not a single reported looting incident ( on the mainstream media, anyway), no shootings, no rampages, no police cleaning out Wal-marts.
Anyway, dense populations have to be serviced by energy-using vehicles; without them, or electricity, city and suburbanites would be in BIG trouble. I'd give it a few weeks, a month at most, then it'd all start to break down seriously.

Without power, society would collapse. Energy represents the basic unit of any civilization. We measure 'work' in units of energy.
Example: A group of 20 men can build a house in two weeks with the proper power tools. Without elecricity, though, they can't even build one in two months. All of thier tools are worthless. They would have to first build new tools that didn't require electricity or gasoline. So, instead of using a chainsaw to cut down a tree, they would have to build a forge, make a hand saw that was big enough to cut it down, and then saw it. What used to be as simple as getting a load of lumber dropped off becomes a monumental task.
This would hold true everywhere. Crops couldn't be harvested or planted, livestock would starve, people would die of thirst. It would be mass chaos in a matter of days. People would 'manage' by killing each other. The military would take over for a short time, but as soon as the fuel ran out, they would be stuck, too. Soon, the cities would be looted from end to end, and society would collapse because without mass communications, you can't have organization in a country.
Hmmm...sounds fun...where do I sign up?

The human race has the amazing ability to adapt. I for one wouldn't mind it. It would be hard for a while, but I think people would apreciate the things they have a whole lot more. People survived long ago, before we had any of the creature comforts we have today, and led happy productive lives.

Chaos, riots, but at least this generation should still be able to survive. At least the ones that aren't on life support.
