like for example, I am in college, and if I know I need a book for a class I would never even think about buying it at all before I saw if they had an older edition available for checkout at the on campus library because in some cases the older editions are more or less the same as newer ones. And if I could not find it at the library then I would at least look for a used copy. But by no means would I ever actually buy a book at the regular expensive price at the store. I would just go without it until I could find it used. And yet I just see so many people at the bookstore buying books, like they have that kind of money, and I just can't even believe they would actually do that. It almost makes me want to cry sometimes. And it is not just this; it it other things like going to clubs, e.t.c. whereas in my case I would never do anything like that. Although I am 21 I have yet to learn to drive, and even if I could I would not do anything like that because I know I do not have money

to spend like that. It just really amazes me how some people can just go out and do things that take away from their academics and spend money like it is nothing when here I am in my senior year, owe at least $10,000 in loans, and may not even graduate unless I can get an internship for this semester. And I have never done anything like going to clubs, e.t.c., nor would I ever consider it. But the reality is I have found that the people who do such things are the ones who end up failing classes and having to repeat. I mean it is just so stupid. It is like other people are worried about doing those things, and here I just want to do what I want to do and not worry about other people. I mean is there something wrong with this? Because I am beginning to feel like I should want to do those things that everyone else is doing, but I just don't want to. And I think it is a shame.

ok.... first i thought good question now i jsut think you are a hateful and ignorant person yourself. I like buying new books, because i keep them, because from books we learn. I am 25 i have a brand new car. If i can afford to do these things i dont feel i shouldnt just coz people like you are going to judge me. I think you are jsut jealous of people who have more money then you. I am all for a bargain, but you better believe it that i am spending 1500$ on a Louis Vuitton bag for my birthday and christmas every year, just because i can and want to. and i refuse to feel bad about it.

the more you add to your question the more i worry about the quality of your life and judgment you seem to pass on people without knowing them. I have an MA which i just graduated with 3 days ago( with a 3.9 GPA) . I have NO DEBT ... and like i said i spend pretty easily. On going out and partying and buying shoes and bags that most people probably wont dream of. Yes in my BA days i failed classes, but so what... thats what being young and stupid is about. I dont think i am inferior to your knowledge, frankly i would say i am smarter, because having the freedoms to do drugs and alcohol and patry till the sun comes up i finally made choices and balanced my life to where i am not JUST focused on work but have a quality to my life that i love. And as a by the way... other peoples spending habits are NONE of your concern. If you cant do it yourself then dont judge people who can.

Two different opinions on this subject {omit the bugger guy}
We have become a greedy breed . I can see both sides , it's just a shame that those who have can't see how good it feels to give rather than flaunt what they do have . I don't have much & that's okay with me , but if I see someone who needs a hand up I sure won't look down on them . I will share what I can . The other side is I don't think I need the most expensive anything just because "someone " puts a high price lable on it .

Ignorance is rampant because we have nothing to hold us accountable except for a set of laws that can be negated with the proper amount of cash. The idea that relativity is the measure of right and wrong is a blatant misconception and those who thought it up must have been people who could not conform to the norms of society for whatever reason. Now everything is okay to someone, even murder. It is a sad state when we think that we are our own judges.

Being more frugal in your spending doesn't make you more intellectually superior. In fact, if you fail to do the required reading while waiting to find a bargain, that makes you a bit less intelligent if you fall behind in your studies. You can be "penny wise, but pound foolish" in this case.
As for going to clubs, some people enjoy the opportunity to socialize there. It doesn't mean they will necessarily drink to excess, engage in illicit sexual activity or act in other ways that are irresponsible.
College should broaden your views.

i have learned that wasting my time on what others have and what they are doing is not going to change my situation.
like i could get upset at how i see everyone around me getting help from agency so they can have it all for their kids and not worry about bills cloths housing and what not but i learned that that's them and i don't know why or how they got it and me thinking about it isn't going to cloth feed or house my child. so just focus on you and save yourself undo upsetment. its their life if they go to clubs and buy new books. no one should be made to feel guilty for what they spend their own money on.
not to be mean but maybe you need to get out more i am not saying party but make some friends and go to a coffee house or join a study group focus on yourself and what makes you happy and less time trying to figure out why this or that person is buying new and partying.

everyone at some point forgets what it like to walk in another shoes .

Your problem isn't basically ignorance v. intelligence, it's poverty v. wealth. To quote Oprah Winfrey, "Anyone who says money doesn't buy happiness doesn't have any." Once you finish your college education, you'll have the tools to get a good job and acquire some of that money. Until then, hang in there. Your time will come!

In the bookstore, I like to sandwich my sticky booger in between pages as a surprise for the next person.
