I agree with everyone of you-

I guess I wonder how quickly the situations around the world with radical muslims would end if we had the same resolve today.

We know who's at the root of the problem. If we put the unrelenting pressure of assurred mass casualties (exactly Trumans thought process) to MAKE civilians speak out against their leaders, it would be quicker than letting them habor and aide these thugs.

Well, far more people were killed in fire bombings in other cities in Japan and Germany.

Besides, it was war, they started it. It may sound heartless, but it was either nuke them or have hundreds of thousands of US soldiers die in an invasion.

Don't start none and there won't be none.

Lets compare the 300,000 casualties to the other options the Allies had....

1) Blockade the islands and starve them to death with estimaded 1,000,000 casualties.

2) Drop Mustard Gas on the cities with several million casualties.

3) Invade a country that was arming their civilian population that would result in millions of Japanese being killed as was demonstrated by the Kamakaze attacks and Static Defenses used the Japanese on previous islands.

Once again, people look backward with 20/20 hindsight, its not as easy looking at it from the other side.

You cannot judge history of the past with the mind-set of the present, because you know how it all turned out. The people making decisions in 1945 did not have all the information we have today.

If you'd like to prosecute Truman for doing something truly unlawful, that would be his setting the most regrettable precedent of a "police action", that is, sending American troops overseas without a declaration of war from Congress.

So in that sense, we are still bearing the ill effects of a Truman decision.

Well, you're a little late don't you think? And I'd like to see you try and prosecute an ex-president who died in 1972. Unless you want to end up in a jail cell in Guantanamo Bay.
