for an English project, I've had to research a person from Greek mythology and now i must compare him to a modern day person. i was assigned to research Perseus, but i can't think of anybody to compare him to. Is there any one out there who knows stuff about Perseus and can think of a modern day person to compare him to?

To find a Modern day person to compare to Persus you would have to find a constant hero that went from one rescue to another. A person who married a woman he had previously rescued.
Who stayed faithful to her throughout her life.

That kind of singular person is few and far between in these days, but there may be a connection to the everyday Soldiers serving in Afghanistan.

You will need to represent the story elements as symbols, rather than take them literally.

There are two Perseus stories you could use :

1. The Gorgon-Slayer : hero who slays the serpent-haired monster with the gaze of stone. He does not look directly at her but only at her reflection.
So, try and think of a modern-day "monster" --e.g. person or group in the news that invokes fear-- and who has defeated them. The monster could also be a disease, and the hero is a doctor who "kills" it. Just use your imagination with some symbolism.

2. The Princess-Rescuer : an old love story, hero rescues the chained princess from the dragon and they fall in love, get married and live happily ever after.
You can apply this to almost any romantic real-life story. The "dragon" can symbolize any difficulty or unpleasant thing in life, that the lover "rescues" one from.

does it have to be someone famous or maybe someone from your family?
I agree with Terry about the Soldiers serving in Afghanistan.or maybe someone from your family who served in a different war.
