The PC Link light on my modem is off when I connect it to my desktop, but it still works through my laptop. I called Comcast and after a series of tests they said my ethernet card was fried. I have no experience messing with the insides of the tower. Is technical know-how required to replace the ethernet card or it is as simple as taking the old one out and putting in the new one? Do you know of a good place to get a new one? I'm running windows XP. Thanks.

As mentioned, replacing it is very easy. Here is a $6.99 example of what you're after:

You will be surprised at how simple it is to change . Computers are basic plug -un plug parts. Get 1 of the guys where you are getting replacement parts to show you (on in store comp) where it is . Go home . Do it your self.

It's really easy to replace. You just pull the old one out and insert the new one into the slot that the old one was in.

yes it is easy just open the back of the tower and take it out,you will see the one you want to take out, then take it with you so you know what to buy, then install it as the instructions say since it will be new hardware
