My favourite band is Guns N' Roses and the song that got me into them was "Sweet Child O' Mine" [surprise, surprise].
Probably the most obvious GN'R song, but i remember hearing it for the first time and thinking... they're something special. The guitar solo blew me away.
And it went on from there.

What song got /you/ into your favourite band?
What was it about the song? e.g singers voice, lyrics, guitar solo, bass line etc.

RQ.

nirvana - 'smells like teen spirit'.

i'd never really heard anything other than the usual garbage that filled the airwaves back in the early nineties, but hearing this opened my eyes up to the whole music scene.

i own every track that nirvana ever released; they were the greatest band in the world in my opinion, and if it hadn't been for them I probably would've missed out on a lot of other great music as well.

it's probably just me getting old and bitter, but today's music scene seems like it really needs the kind of revolution that nirvana created back in their day.

When I was a teenager I heard 'Wowie Zowie' by 'Frank Zappa and the Mothers of Invention', and that started my 40 + year obsession with one of the greatest musical minds of the last century!
When I first heard the 'Freak Out' album, the year was 1966. At the time, nobody was doing anything remotely close to that style of music. It broke so many barriers musically, and introduced revolutionary recording techniques that would go on to inspire the Beatles. His sardonic wry humor, witty lyrics and the beat captivated me. I think you really had to be around at that time to truly understand.
I've enjoyed everything he's accomplished up to his untimely passing in 1993. Frank released over 70 albums in his 27 years as a performer. What an amazing career!
I definitely have Frank to thank for exposing me to many things musically, that I may have overlooked otherwise.

Well my favorite band is Dead Kennedys, and I first heard their song California Uber Alles while playing Tony Hawk with my brother. I really liked the lyrics, and I liked how Biafra's voice sounded so sarcastic. I just thought the song was pretty cool so I decided to check out their other songs and I fell in love, as cliche as that sounds.

The Taste of Ink by The Used

Mainly because it was off of their first CD and it was about breaking out of small town life and doing something big with your life. I live in a small town and I've always thought BIG so I related to it a lot. I love all of the Used's music but their first cd gets played more than the other 3 that I have. ;)

My favorite band is the Beatles. I've always liked the songs they played on the radio but I never listened to an album. When I heard the song "Something", I decided to get the Abbey Road CD and now I love them.

Nirvana and 'heart shaped box'. The songs sentiment and Kurts voice made me think they were the best thing I had ever heard, they are my favourite band, they sum up everything I love about music and have introduced me to loads of other grunge and rock bands that I would not have otherwise listened to.

Well I have 3 favorite bands. First, I'm Not Okay by My Chemical Romance, the lyrics of the song and the way gerard voice sounds when he sings, i feel in love. Second, Oblivion by 30 Seconds to Mars, again the lyrics and Jared's voice make the song powerful and amazing. And last, Tonight, Tonight by Smashing Pumpkins, theres something about Billy Corgans voice that makes me want to listen to the song over and over.

Du Hast got me into Rammstein. The melody just makes you wanna punch. Hyperviolet got me into Pig Destroyer. The guitar sounded like a siren, which was so cool. And, Marked By Darkness got me into Hatesphere. The awesome synthesized drums in the beginning totally pulls you in.
