Yes, you are . . . but how do you know? What if you have a lot more complicated numbers like 63, 98, 140 and 490 or even worse. This is the way to do it:
Factor 8 as much as you can (into primes.) You get 2x2x2
Factor 16 as much as you can.) 2x2x2x2
Same with 20: 2x2x5
The greatest common factor: 2 is common to all three, but so is 2x2 but not 2x2x2 therefore the gcf contains 2x2. What about the 5? It ain't common to the three nos. so it doesn't make it into the gcf. So, your gcf is 2x2 = 4.
This method works for any number of numbers.

Write out the prime factorization of each:
8 = 2x2x2
16 = 2x2x2x2
20 = 2x2x5
The GCF is the product of the common prime factors. They all have two factors of 2, though some more but we can only consider what they all share. Only 20 has a 5 factor. SO the GCF = 2x2 = 4. You are correct.
