It was announced last night by Cleveland's GM that whoever starts in week 1 for the Browns, it won't be Quinn. But why not? The Browns don't exactly have a rich history at the QB position in recent years. I know it's only pre-season, but this is supposed to be why they play these games in the first place. In 2 games, he's gone 19-31 for 236 yards, 3 TD's and 0 interceptions. So how is he ruled out as the starter so easily?

Bonnie D, it was easier to let Carson Palmer hold the clipboard for a year because the Bengals had John Kitna, who had an MVP-worth season... such is not the case with the Browns.

Yes he deserves a chance. However, when you look at it seems as though the Browns are trying to protect him. They know this is their quarterback of the future and that want his confidence to always be high. I think they are somewhat expecting Frye or Anderson to drop the ball early and then have Quinn come in and at that point he could basically do no wrong to alter his confidence.
Personally I think that Brady could handle the pressure of loosing just fine. I know that it will bother him because he is competitive, but I also think he gives the Browns a spark that the other 2 don't and he gives them their best chance to win.

I believe that Brady will be the starting QB after game 5. My beloved Browns will be at best 2-3, but will be probably 1-4, Romeo will be fired or at the verge of being fired and will be forced to start Quinn to save his job. As we all know now, Romeo isn't the great coach we were led to believe when he was hired. Phil Savage (GM) does have some knowledge of the game, but Lerner (owner) will force his people to start Quinn, just to applease the fans. We Browns fans have been waiting for a QB since Bernie was let go. (Damn Belchick, you will never be loved in Browns lore) Quinn should have 4 TDs this preseason, Romeo should have challenged the pass to Jurevicius. Quinn by far has shown poise and leadership on the field. So Browns fans, it is time to hope for a dismal season. I for one, would love the Browns to go 5-11 without Quinn, fire Romeo, and hire Martz. If Martz can make Bulger and Warner into Pro Bowl QBs, imagine what his offensive scheme could do with Brady Quinn!

I agree with almost everything Charles020000...whatever siad.
Except......Crennel and Savage have made great move since they got there, only to have them sabotaged by key injuries to the Key acquisitions. Like LeCharles, Kellon, and Braylon. Even now, people like Steinbach are hurt.
To make it more difficult for them, they have had to replace almost every player that was on the roster when they were hired, so stocking any sort of quality depth is out the window.
I say Crennel needs to be on the hot seat, but at the end of the season. Now that he has the most compete roster that the Browns have enjoyed since re-joining the League, lets give him the whole season to prove himself. I don't care if he started Quinn or not, to expect a winning record before bye week against that schedule would take a miracle.
If he cant make .500 this year, then lets talk about firing him. I deally, regarding Quinn, I would like to see him held out till after the bye, give him a little more time to learn, instead of throwing him to the wolves against the toughest division in football right out of the gate. Fans with their fickle memories will damn Quinn just as readily as they are Damning Crennel, if he doesn't go out and win immediately. And that is not likely to happen. Quinn is the feather capping several years of intense effort to rebuild a once proud franchise. Lets not read more into it than that.

Quinn should be in ASAP, but sitting him a week or 2 may not be a bad idea. If you watched them last night, it was quite clear he's the best QB, even against Denver's 1st team (he would've been 6-6 with a TD on the first drive if Crennel had challenged). But there were also a few plays that he seemed to have botched, which shows he may not be 100% comfortable with the playbook yet. A couple extra weeks to get up to speed may not be a bad idea. And if his first game is against Oakland (they almost can't lose) that will be a real confidence boost.

Personally I think the fact that their not wanting to start Quinn has alot to do with contract incentives. There's no denying Quinn is the best QB the Browns have, hands down. They probably figure to kill two birds w/ one stone.
1.Take time to let Quinn develop and learn the offense.
2.Alot of his contract is based of of how much playing time he gets over the next few years. If they sit him for most of this season. Or limit his playing time, the Browns save themselves hundreds of thousands of dollars in contract payout.
They have to know BQ is their best bet. But they don't want another Tim Couch repeat, so whats the rush their thinking. Let the offensive line gel. That way when Quinn does eventually come in, he won't be scrambling for his life and forcing throws like Frye did last year.
So basically if they don't start him season opener. It all boils down to the Browns wanting to save some of that money they dished out to BQ. Remember BQ and his agent wasn't wanting a #22 pick contract. That's why he held out. The Browns finally gave in and payed him $250,000 more than what that #22 slot would have paid.
They figured "ok do what it takes to get him in here". But....we'll take advantage of all the loopholes in his contract to get some of that money back. But don't worry Browns fans. If BQ produces like we all think he will. In a couple years or so he'll renogotiate his contract and get whatever he wants.

Quinn is not ready for prime time yet. Let him be #2 or #3 the first year. Even Carson Palmer had to do that.
Let Frye have a chance now that they have finally given him a decent O Line.

I agree...I think they should play the kid, but rule of thumb..Quinns a rookie.Cleveland doesn`t want him to get hurt and lose the kid for the season or longer. They have to break him in on weaker teams.but when they do ( around week 8 ) .. I think he`s gonna` be great and Miami is gonna` wish they grabbed him.

basically the problem with quinn is...he's a rookie...the games of the pre-season and the regular season are a completely different environment...as they are between college and pro...in the pre-season quinn didnt play a full game...so the pressure of the game being on the line could possibly make him melt...the object is to win games, not give a high profile player playing time.

Quinn should not start. He has done well this preseason, but he needs a year of learning under his belt. Either way, Cleveland will not be any good. They still stink.
