Aerosmith....they were reborn to make cookie-cutter movie soundtrack rock songs...and everybody still thought they rocked for some reason.

Nickelback. It's unbelievable how this band got so many hits. I won't deny that they play excellent rock music, but the lyrics sound like the diary of a thirteen-year-old who feels like an outcast, that he writes in whenever he complains that life sucks (something another overrated band, Simple Plan, reminds us of over and over again.) I will give them credit for their single "If Everyone Cared" putting everyone in the spotlight and making them think about how to better the world, but I will NOT download this track into my iPod, that's not enough. Chad Kroeger's gravely singing voice, I can easily blame on the same sound enhancement work that makes Avril Lavigne sound so good (have you heard her sing live? I doubt she'd make it in the top 10 on Canadian Idol!) How this band can be so successful is completely beyond me. Needless to say, I've only been using this band to promote my casual fanship for the less overrated clone band Theory of a Deadman.

Honorable mentions go to Nirvana (which I blame on Kurt Cobain's equally overrated widow Courtney Love being in the news constantly and selling her husband's diaries, too. She needs more help than rehab can give) and Good Charlotte (poseurs, not punks; I have more punk in my toenails than GC has in their whole album. Explain the fact that they are touring with Justin Timberlake!)

Nirvana! Might be a generation issue with me. Growing up with bands such as Pixies, Dinsaur Jr. Big Black and Husker Du. I just felt they were nothing original, just a good band with some decent albums. Kurt Cobians death bookmarked them in history rather than their music influence..

Nirvana.

They're not that bad, but how do they remain consistent on the radio after thirteen years? How did they sell fifty to sixty albums? How is Kurt Cobain one of the greatest guitarists of all time? And why are Nirvana as a whole high on the "Top 100" lists, along with their albums and songs?

I like the other three grunge bands better.
