Hi there i think the mccann incident has brought into the limelight the consequences of neglecting children ..
I also feel that people who would have normally left their children unattended will now realise that it is not okay and is against the guidelines ..
I have to admit since it happened i have noted that more people are a bit protective ..
I guess it takes something horrific to happen to make people realise that their actions are accountable for ..(and it could happen to them)
I just wish that the goverment passed some law which stated actual ages where it was deemed okay to leave children unsupervised as at present we only have guidelines and some people have no respect for them . .so maybe if it was made law people would take note

I think that very few people in this country or anywhere else would leave 3 small children under 4 alone and go out drinking.
But there always will be people like the McCanns who neglect their children like this.

I've seen many on here say that they have never left their children but there are people out there who do it. It's something that people have done for years. Children have been left in cars while the mum goes in to the supermarket. Children are left outside shops. Mums quickly pop in to the neighbours and leaves the children asleep on the sofa. The list is endless of instances where children are left. When people go on holiday, I defy anyone to say they don't know of or have heard of parents leaving the kids asleep in the room while they are in the bar.
This sad event has been a kick up the bum to some parents who do leave their kids for whatever reason no matter if it's five minutes or one hour

The vast majority of parents in both Portugal and the UK care for and take care of their children whether at home or on holiday always have and always will. One would hope that the people to learn from this are the McCanns themselves... and yet we read while Kate and Gerry are busy running the media circuss the two twins are packed off to yet another creche... they are just over two years old !

If good things can come out of the horror of the 2nd world war, then I'm sure good things will come out of this tragedy.
People can always learn from the mistakes of others, and ways this can have been avoided will awaken people to what is already available, such as portable baby monitors, which the parents could have used even in their position, and which could have highlighted the problem, before she went missing.

As much as the McCanns tell us that what they did is something most parents do, it is not. I think there were very few people before this who would have dreamt of leaving their young children alone while they went out for a meal before this happened, most people look after their children better then that.

i think it will make a lot of people think, which is a good thing and remind them of the dangers there are. but i think a lot of people will have the "it wont happen to us"mentality. and lets face it, something like this is very rare, but all the same its not worth taking the chance.
when i took my children on hol they came everywhere with us, even when they were early teens. we wouldnt let them stay in the rooms on own while we went out. we were a family and went out together. i know its not always convenient but hard luck. they are only children for such a short time then they are suddenly all grown up and dont want to holiday with thei r parents anyway. u just have to choose appropriate places for you all to go to.
being professional people like they are it is hard to believe that they could be so stupid. what should have stopped them doing this is the thought that one of them may have woken up anyway. imagine a childs terror to be in an unfamiliar surrounding and not being able to get parents attention. what were they thinking of

Why do all the folks on here who are bored with the McCann questions bother to open them ? No one is forcing them to read them...there are plenty of other categories.
