Lots of guts and courage. Knowing it's going to get hit that hard and it still does it's job. That truly is amazing.
And the inside is made from tightly wound bands which is covered by cowhide and stitched to form a baseball.

A leather cover is put on, in two pieces, and stitched together using 108 stitches of waxed red cotton thread.

Pretty sure the inside is a rubber ball surrounded by string. And then the leather covering.
