depends on the case. if the case involves crimes such as rape and murder i dont think so. they should not be exposed to such things at an early age. anything goes in a trial, you know.

but if you think the testimonies will not be that graphic i think they should be able to attend. its also good to expose them to the justice system, to see for themselves first hand how it works (or does not work)

however i think they would not like to sit for hours inside the courtroom doing nothing but listening to legalese. they would die of boredom.

I attended a crimminal trial as a youngster. I was about 12. I think it's a great idea, as long as the child doesn't disrupt the procedings. I went as part of a larger group. There were about 5 of us interested in the court system and how it worked. My parents arranged it, and chaperoned.

Part of having a trial by jury is allowing the public in the courtroom. The trial I attended was a drug possession charge. I probably wouldn't want my kid hearing the details of a rape/murder trial, but not all trials are violent crime.

In many counties in KS, high school students are brought to hear a typical docket. In rural counties the docket will be a variety of civil and criminal matters.

Young children are never welcome in court. They can't sit still and be quiet. I have seen it 1000 times were someone walks into court with a baby or toddler only to be told by the judge to leave the court room due to the noise.

I think criminal trials should be rated "R", as in no one under seventeen admitted without an adult.

They really should have better things to do anyway. Unless there's a specific reason for them to be there, they should go outside and play.
