...or has he been the benefactor of having John Elway, Terrell Davis, Champ Bailey and others. Has he made his defensive coordinators the scapegoats for his own offenses' ineptitude in the past? With some of his veteran players like Tom Nalen (C), and Rod Smith (WR), getting closer to retirement, will he be able to refill the spots when they're gone?

How can you not give Shanahan credit for being a good coach? In his 13th season with the Broncos he has won two Super Bowls and had many playoff births. How many 1000 yard rushers has he had? To many for me to remember. His defense has carried the team the last few years with Baily being the best cover corner in the league and the run defense being fantastic as well. He has gotten lucky by having Elway, but T.D was a partial product of the system, just like Cliton Portis who cannot get 1200 yards a season ever again. Shanahan is a great coach who is also a lucky one. Look out for them this year.

Which came first the chicken or the egg? That's the problem with a question like this.

Some say MIKE was the benefactor of ELWAY and DAVIS, yet ELWAY did not win a SB without DAVIS and SHANNAHAN, so that makes SHANAHAN a good coach, but MIKE hasn't really done diddley since ELWAY retired, so there you go. I think it's a combination of he had benefit of ELWAY and DAVIS, but he was a good coach as he was able to coach them to a title.

So which came first the chicken or the egg?

Hmmm...Elway didn't win the Super Bowl without Shanahan...and Elway won it twice with him...I think its obvious Shanahan is a good coach...and drafting is not always the head coach...Actually, the final word on drafting usually comes from the GM...

And I'm not a Broncos fan...I'm a Patriots fan...but more often than not lately, the Broncos seem to have the Patriots' number...I think that is Shanahan...

Part of being a great coach is to have great players on your team. He got Elway and Smith with the team but alot of there success has to be thanked to him. He is a great coach and will be for years.

He's made some really stupid decisions down the line with drafting. I would say "no," he's not as good of a head coach as his record indicates. His name doesn't even deserve to be muttered with "Hall of Fame." I do think players such as Elway are rare and he just got lucky.
