Hello, I have a microphone for my computer. Lately I have been seeing on craig's list jobs for voiceovers and wanted to make a few short examples of me saying stuff to send in as ghetto demo's. I was wondering what program I would use and how I record what I'm saying? ALso, please recommend a program I would already have on my computer or a free download as I'm not seroius enough about this to go out and buy a program.

Personal Call Logger

* Record calls to your PC
* Simple connection
* Includes call management software

Product Information

Keep permanent recordings of important calls. Capture every word on your computer! Just plug this device in between your phone and sound card. Set it to record every call — or activate it manually on specific calls. Then, use the included software to sort, play back, and even e-mail your audio files.

Document exactly what's said.

Avoid potential misunderstandings. Record important telephone conversations word-for-word—directly onto your computer. The Personal Call Logger makes it very easy. Just plug it into the mic port on your sound card, and into your phone. (If you have an analog phone, you'll connect it between the phone and the wall. If you have a digital phone, you'll connect it between the phone and the handset.) Then load the software onto your system from the CD.

You're set to record negotiations, agreements, sales transactions, and any other business you handle by phone. The software time/date stamps each recording, and allows you to manage your stored audio files. You can instantly replay any recording. Sort your collection of recordings however you like. E-mail a recording so someone else can listen to it. Transfer or copy recordings (onto a CD, for example) to keep in your permanent archives.

* Simple connection — takes just minutes.
* Included software — allows you to manage recording. You can elect to record every call, or just select one. And you can replay, sort, e-mail, transfer, and copy files very easily.
* Unlimited capacity — is available as you transfer older files to other media, and always have space for new recordings on your PC.
* Caller ID internet-lookup capability — lets you seek out a caller's name and address by simply clicking on any recording.
* Digital/analog phone compatibility — means the Personal Call Logger will work with whichever type of phone you have.

System Requirements:
Pentium PC or better
Microsoft Windows 95/98/NT/2000/Me/XP

find the mic-in port and plug the mic into the computer

right click the speaker icon next to the time on your task bar and select "open volume control" then go to options, hit properties, and hit recording then OK, make sure that the "microphone" is selected and the volume control is up

THEN open a sound recording program and have-at-it

Audacity is a good free recording program that makes WAV files... you can download the MP3 making codec, but it's easier to use iTunes or something else to convert it to MP3 if you need it that way

(oh... and just as a tidbit of info... even though you do, if you find yourself without a microphone, a set of headphones works fine too... they're just not powered, so you'll have to make sure the recording volume on your computer is up enough to pick anything up)

Sound Recorder is the best free option until you decide you want more flexibility. If you can't find it in your menu, use:

Start -> Run -> sndrec32

You may have to tinker with your sound card connections (line in, mic, line out, etc) - I never get them hooked up right the first (3) times (color-blind!). :)

You'll also find having the mixer (advanced options of volume control icon) up is handy at the same time, to help get a proper recording level:

Start -> Control Panel -> Sounds & Audio Devices -> Place Volume Icon In The Taskbar.

When the volume icon is in the system tray at the screen's bottom, right-click and choose Properties.

Right click on the volume icon in your task bar at the bottom right. Left click on " Open volume control ". Click on " options " . Click on " Record ". Make sure you have a check mark in the MIC box. Then when you want to record something, go to Start-Programs-accessories-entertainment-sound recorder. From there on the learning curve is really not that bad.

Go to start menu
accessories/entertainment
sound recorder. If you can't find it in your start menu, use start
/ Run / sndrec32

This is already on your pc, so will cost you nothing.

Audacity is a better free recording program that makes .wav files.

If you wish to convert to mp3, iTunes will do this and is free.

JetAudio and Cool Edit Pro are much more professional, but you will have to buy them, or find a cracked version.

Good Luck :-)
