The word approximate is from the Latin approximatus meaning to approach or come near.
An approximation is an educated guess - close but probably not exactly the right answer.
For example, "Its approximately 240,000 miles from Earth to the Moon").

People often use the word "about" instead of approximate (simply because most people don't know how to spell big words anymore).

approximate means about there, but not quite. kinda like a cross between almost and slightly above.

Something near to perfection But not Quite. Its like being secong to the Winner .You almost won but it wasnt good enough.
