I just drove my 2004 F-150 Heritage (64k miles) from Las Vegas to Portland, with the bed fully loaded with my wife's books.

The first time I started it after the 21-hour drive was over, I noticed a distinct squealing sound coming from under the hood. The best description I can make is it sounded like a chimp laughing.

What'd I kill? And would it be covered by the extended warranty?

Sounds like a 3 or 4 year old serpintine belt making noise and a possable tensioner that is weakened. Try a new belt first they are easy to install Auto-Zone has How to change my belt at there store. Many times you can do that job your self as Belts are maintence items and not covered by extended warranty. However the auto/belt tensioner is a covered part in the best plans.

Sounds lika a bad drive belt. Does it go away after a few seconds? When is the last time you changed it? Could be overdue for a service check. And no . Regular maintenance items are not covered under warranty

Its the fan belt.. U need a new one especially after that many miles on the truck...while its turned off put some soap on the inside of the belt it will temporally stop the squeal.
