A few gems of the conversations we have had over the past few months include:

You do know it means getting holes stabbed through your ears?
- 'ears' or 'pierced', which word do you think I am too thick to understand?

You do realise it will probably hurt a little bit?
- Of course. Metal studs being pushed through my ears is gonna hurt!

You do know you'll have to wear the studs all the time until they heal up?
If I didn't want to wear earrings I wouldn't be wanting holes in my ears.

I accept I may just be being over-protective, not wanting to let her do anything that may hurt (I felt so guilty getting her innoculated as a baby, maybe it is just an extension on that), and even if I don't let her now, she'll only do it when she is older anyway. At least at this age I can supervise her taking care of them.

Do you think I should give way on this? who knows, maybe we'll make it a family ocasion. I've never had mine done, so now might be a good time.

I think you should, and you should make it a family affair. Because even though she can talk the talk now, when she gets in that chair and sees the gun she'll be afraid-and it'll help if someones going through it with her. Before you go through with it, make sure you tell her the consequences of not taking care of her ears (irration, sores, blood, etc.) And if it's at all possible wherever you go, see if they can have two people do it (so each person does a ear, and both pierce at the same time).

:)

My 7 year old sister got her ears pierced as a Christmas present, and she did it at the doctor so the whole thing worked out great. She didn't even flinch. So, the pain really isn't what you need to worry about. It infections, which are very common at a place like Claires or Piercing Patagonia. I suggest you go to the doctor, our doctor did use a gun. Just make sure she cleans them every day, and, I would leave them in for more then 6 weeks, because it hurts a lot then to take it out, so I would wait at least 12 weeks, because that when the ears have really healed. Good luck!!

It sounds like she is fairly mature and has thought about what she is doing. Make sure she knows that she will have to take care of her ears for a while after - cleaning the holes and she won't be able to change the earrings for a few weeks. I think you have made your decision but want us to tell you it's the right one. I cant see any harm in letting her get them done but I would double check her schools rules on earrings first to make sure you get some that fit in with the uniform policy. As for getting yours done go for it. It sounds like a good mother/daughter experience and will give you an extra thing to buy each other for birthdays and christmases :)

Definately let her get it done. I've gotten three in each ear, and they don't hurt as much if you get them done at the same time. If she doesn't like the earings in, you can take them out and let them heal back. This is something you should let your seven year old experience. I wanted mine done for the first time about that age, and it did hurt a little and my eyes teared up, but I wanted it, so I put up with the pain.Just be sure she is willing to clean them twice a day, or it'll be worse than actually getting it done.

I have never seen the big deal with letting girls get their ears pierced. I would allow it. Unless she wants those huge ugly studs that make your earlobe look like it has an innertube hanging from it. I'm not talking about the size of the earings, I mean the size of the hole.

You should give in. Getting her ears pierced isn't that big of a production. It hurts a little bit, but the pain is over very quickly. It's like... a second of pain per ear, then your ears start to feel warm. Lol. I'd go get them done at Claires... make sure they use a pen to make little dots where they plan on putting the holes in your ears... make sure they're center on your ear lobe... I got mine done when i was ten and my dad got the manager to do it.
But if you do go to Claires, they give you this antiseptic.
Don't use it, it's watery crap, instead use Hydrogen Peroxide in the morning and night around the stud to help it heal.

Hope this helped =]

There's nothing you should be afraid of. I had my ears pierced when I was 6 and even that time it gave no pain (and it was long time ago). They've got special pistols, she will not even feel it. Click! That's it. The only thing is you should do it nowhere but a medical parlour.

Yes, but make it a reward for something she did. Example: make a deal if she gets all A's or passing grades...or however they show what kind of grade you get at her school (depending on the kind of student she is) then she can get her ears pierced. or you could do if she keeps her room clean for X amount of time (say...a month or two) I don't know your kid, so i can't say exactly what would be appropriate, but i hope i gave you the right idea!

Yes! I pierced my ears on my 7th birthday like 5 years ago! It didn't hurt at all, but the next two times it hurt soooo much!
