To properly check for a drain on the system, you need a digital meter with max current reading capability of 10 or 20 amps. Put the meter in SERIES with the battery connection.
Note the reading with the doors closed. Wait 10-15min and recheck. (delayed accessories need time to shut down)

Now that you are ready......start pulling fuses and see which one changes the meter the most. Make sure you pull the courtesy lights fuse if the fuses are inside the car.

Now that you have found which circuit the fault is in.......get a schematic of it. Then inspect the components for excessive heat with your fingers....this includes wires. If none found, or inaccessable.......disconnect the various parts of the circuit and watch you meter to see if anything changes. Change = bad component.

By the way..........shorts usually blow fuses.......cross-circuiting is probably what you are referring to.
If all else fails, at least you can tell the mechanic which circuit the fault is in.

Sounds like the alternator. Disconnect the battery when car is running. If it shuts off that's the problem. If not then ya it could be a short or lose wire. Inspect all your wires.

Good luck

Sounds like a bad alternator.

Most big auto parts places will test it on the car for free.
